De Sole Wedding
Laura De Sole, director of global skin-care marketing for Estée Lauder, and Ben Baccash, assistant project manager for Shawmut Design and Construction, initially connected on OkCupid. After an underwhelming first encounter, they forged ahead nonetheless and hit it off when he invited her to a Brooklyn cocktail bar for date two. The couple ultimately got engaged a little over a year later, while on vacation with the bride’s parents in the Maldives. After fourteen days spent together as a group, they were finally able to steal a night away alone: After a romantic dinner, they took a walk on the beach, and he proposed.
De Sole and Baccash married under the Spanish moss at Rose Hill Mansion in Bluffton, South Carolina, over Thanksgiving weekend last year. (The mansion was built by relatives of the bride’s mother in the 1850s, and the Lowcountry is where De Sole spent summers with her family growing up.) The bride and groom both wore Tom Ford and exited down the aisle to “Oh Happy Day.” Brian Wedge photographed the event, and Bronson Van Wyck was the creative mastermind behind the decor at the dinner reception following the ceremony. “Live oak, silk, weeping willow, crystal, velvet, candles, blood- red peonies, great music, and two people in love. Not one thing wrong with that combination!” he said. The ultimate wedding band, Party on the Moon, kept everyone dancing nonstop and, at the end of the evening, guests bid the couple goodbye via a pathway of sparklers—the perfect finale to a magical evening.
The bride's father is the chairman of Tom Ford International, the fashion apparel and luxury goods company based in Nanhattan. From 1994 to 2004, he was the chairman and chief executive in Florence, Italy, and London of Gucci Group. Her mother is on the boards of the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia and the Aspen Museum in Colorado.
This was a spectacular evening and a most historic even for Rose Hill Plantation, with many notable guests in attendance.
