Antique lawn jockey

This lawn jockey hitching post(and all others like it) was designed in the 1800s to honor the first jockey to win the Kentucky Derby. That man, Oliver Lewis (a Negro jockey), rode a horse named "Aristide" in 1875 to win the first Kentucky Derby...../ All jockeys during those early years were Negroes and the statue was created to honor Oliver Lewis and all other Negro jockeys...../ In later years, people who had the lawn jockeys began to paint them white for fear of being accused of having a "racist" symbol in the yard. This was wrong, because the hitching post was designed to honor the first and all succeeding Negro jockeys.
